②英語で時計が読めるようになる
中学生の時、
今何時ですか？ ＝ What time is it?
と、習いませんでしたか？
実はこのフレーズ、ほとんど使われていません。
では、英語でどのように言うのでしょうか？
時間の尋ね方
いろいろな表現がありますが、これだけ覚えておけば大丈夫です。
Excuse me.
Do you know what time it is?
すみません。今何時だかわかりますか？
【注意すべきフレーズ】
・Do you have the time ?
今何時？(かなりカジュアルな言い方です)
・Do you have time?
時間ある？ (ナンパ？)
※the をつけないと、全く違った意味になってしまいますので気をつけて下さい。
時間の答え方
3時から5分刻みで答えてみます。それぞれ2種類の文ずつ紹介します。どちらも使えます。
3:00 It’s three. It’s three o’clock.
3:05 It’s three ohfive. It’s five pastthree.
3:10 It’s three ten. It’s ten past three.
3:15 It’s three fifteen. It’s a quarter past three.
3:20 It’s three twenty. It’s twenty past three.
3:25 It’s three twenty-five.It’s twenty-five pastthree.
3:30. It’s three thirty. Its half past three.
3:35 It’s three thirty-five. It’s twenty-five to four.
3:40 It’s three forty. It’s twenty to four.
3:45 It’s three forty-five.It’s a quarter to four.
3:50. It’s three fifty. I’ts ten to four.
3:55 It’s three fifty-five. It’s five to four.
〜時半、〜時15分
３０分毎は half (半分の意味)
１５分毎は a quarter (60分の4分の1の意味)
it’s half past eight. 8時半です。
it’s a quarter pastten. 10時15分です。
※quarter の前にはa が入ります。
〜時〜分過ぎ、〜時〜分前
日本語でも7時5分過ぎ、8時5分前とか言いますよね？英語も同じ表現があります。
5分過ぎは five past
5分前は five to
It’s five past seven. 7時5分過ぎ
it’s five to seven. 7時5分前
基本的な時計の読み方を紹介しました。
数字で読んでしまうのが一番簡単ですが、それ以外にも読み方があることを知っておくとよいと思います。
日本語でも２時半、４時５分前、１０時１０分前と言うのと同じですね。
